The Painting About Fame

Today I took a short break from work and went to the 'free' day at the local Art Museum. It was filled to the brim with art gazers and the attendees included many children who were seated at long tables which had been set up for them to draw/color and they were encouraged to view the gallery. Amidst all of this, I had one painting that I wanted to look at and to study, "The Little Shepherdess" by Bouguereau. Here is the painting, below.

The young woman's eyes follow you wherever you stand, she is robust with health, and her shepherdess' staff is a straight stick upon which she rests her arms in pose. As I studied her, I thought about our topic today, "fame," and how the artist has made her famous because he has so exquisitely captured her in paint with his God given talent for painting in oils. She is a lowly young woman has a slice of fame because the painter has captured her unique spirit on canvas.

The painting reminds us that our lowly lives have little fame excepting that which God uses as we serve Him, shepherding and loving others as Jesus has instructed us. When you arrive at the place were you have an opportunity for fame then you too have the opportunity to point to Jesus Christ because fame causes us to give all the glory to the Lord.

May God bless you as you go about your routines in life, serving Christ with regular faithfulness, Patricia
